You've Got To Love A State That Has A "Cowboy Code Of Ethics"

You've Got To Love A State That Has A "Cowboy Code Of Ethics"...Welcome to Wyoming!

Welcome to Wyoming - Cowboy Code of Ethics

Wyoming State Govenor signed into law legislation adopting an official Wyoming state Code of Ethics.

The Wyoming State Code of Ethics is based upon the best selling book by retired Wall Street Investor James Owen titled Cowboy Ethics: What Wall Street Can Learn from the Code of the West.

Here are the 10 principles:

  1. Live each day with courage
  2. Take pride in your work
  3. Always finish what you start
  4. Do what has to be done
  5. Be tough, but fair
  6. When you make a promise, keep it
  7. Ride for the brand
  8. Talk less and say more
  9. Remember that some things aren't for sale
  10. Know where to draw the line

I love this list, and I respect and admire the Legislators in Wyoming that thought ethics were so important that they wrote legislation to encourage it.

How much better the world would be if we all adhered to this Cowboy Code and made sure our kids were taught it at home and in school.

I'm going to buy 2 copies of this poster and put one in my Los Angeles home staging warehouse and one in my office. The poster doesn't really go with my office decor, but some things are more important than appearances.

Thats pretty cool.  It's amazing how different states are as you move across the country.  The less occupied ones are probably more pleasureable to live in.

I live here in Texas and love that concept!  I will forward to our state Governor and see if he will incorporate those into our state.  Thanks for posting.

Hi Michelle, I'm with Paula on this one.  I'm from Texas as well, and I love the list.

There should be another:

Watch the coffee you drink on the range or you'll hobble like Chester.

Michelle-like Paula (#3), I'm originally from Texas and grew up with the "cowboy" attitude.  I'm giving those posters and books as gifts this year.  Thanks.

David: Most states have something to recommend them, but I don't know of any other, besides Wyoming, that has legislated a code of ethics.

You're welcome, Joe!

Pamela & Liz: That would be great if your Govenor considered something similar

David: I'm not really sure what that means...explain please:o)

Kathy: I'm going to get that book since it looks so interesting. Good idea to give them as gifts.

Michelle, I happen to think that's a wonderful idea!  I do wish all States had a Code of Ethics (and that people followed them).
