This past week I was hired to stage homes with not one, but 2 red dining rooms. We did one Hancock Park luxury home staging project ($3.5M) and a we did an Arcadia home staging project ($1.5M). Despite being in different parts of Los Angeles, in different price ranges and distinctly different architectural styles, both homes had one thing in common - red dining rooms!
Many home stagers run for cover (and "neutral" paint colors) when they see a room painted red, but not me! I love a well done red room. Red is energetic and a red room is memorable. No one who sees either of these houses will soon forget it, and not in a bad way.

In both instances, the rooms were painted red before I got there - for a home staging consultation in one case and for a bid in the second case. FYI, the living room of one home was painted lemon yellow (Hancock Park) and tangerine orange (Arcadia) and we kept those colors as well. I'll be posting those photos in another blog post.

Gorgeous Michelle! I love a red dining room-very stimulating to the appetite and as you say, memorable!! I love the chairs and table and if you view my blog will see I use them all the time in all price point homes.
Beautiful staging and great reminder that not all rooms have to be nuetral. Sometimes a little color does add pizzaz and style.
Cathy Lee: Great minds think alike! Thank you!
Wanda: Sometimes I get so bored with beige, tan, ivory & and all their siblings. Nothing like a good shot of color to wake you up! Thanks!
Michelle- thanks for showcasing the red dining rooms. Imagine the same rooms with white or taupe walls. .. not nearly as interesting. I think color can be a "neutral" in that it doesn't distract from the room.
Kathy: Red isn't for everyone (neither is tan for that matter) and maybe the new owners will repaint once they move in. But I guarantee, when they are discussing the houses they saw that day, they will refer to these houses as the houses with the red dining room and everyone will understand which house they are talking about. It is very memorable and memorable is a good thing when there are many houses on the market to choose from.
There's nothing like a nice pair of red high heels and a nice red dining room, I say! I think both rooms look stunning. A dining room should be dramatic, and this red fits the bill. Great job and so glad you took on the colour.
Thank you Sally. My red high heel days are behind me, but I love a red dining room! Thank you!
I agree, Michelle. The dining room is an area where you can afford to be dramatic! Nice work.
BTW, I lived in Arcadia for a year, and feel a little tug on my heart strings!
Thanks, Deena. I don't think you'd recognize Arcadia anymore. Lots of new construction and McMansions.
