We staged this beautiful Pasadena luxury home this week. I had gone to see this home approximately 3 weeks ago and had done a home staging estimate for the builder/home owner and listing agent. The owner decided that he wanted to put the home on the market without staging "to test the waters". After 2 weeks of a "lukewarm" reception, he agreed to have the home staged by Pasadena's finest home staging company, Moving Mountains Design.
Upon viewing this home I recognized that the rooms were A) HUGE and B)undefined. I've staged hundreds of homes, and it was hard for me to figure out how to place the furniture in this house to bring the living spaces into focus - I can only imagine what home buyers thought when they saw the house empty.

The dining room was so large, I put 2 dining tables together to make a large sqare table, which worked quite well.

Since the walls of the entry were curved, I hung a French tapestry on the wall to accentuate the curve. The round rug also highlights this feature.

I didn't measure it because I didn't have a 100' measuring tape with me, but I think this room was 60' or more from end to end. I broke up the large expanse with area rugs (the one in the foreground is 10'x14') which helps define the space.

This luxury Pasadena new construction home has 5 bedrooms, including a downstairs 2nd master bedroom, and 7 bathrooms.
The home sits on a huge lot. There is room for a tennis or sports court.

Michelle- beautiful job, as always, of staging. And, a great teaching tool as well. Thank you for taking the time to show us the "why" of what you did. I love how the round rug in the entry as well as the hung tapestry pulls the area together. When you step back and look at the area, a square or rectangular one just would not have had the same effect.
Michelle - Kathy has said it all. Your work is beautiful and so thought out. Using two dining room tables what a great idea. I am sure anyone looking at the home before staging was more than over whelmed. You certainly defined the areas well.
Wow Michelle, you did a beautiful job staging, those who are new to the game can learn so much from you..just as Kathy has mentioned :) WEll done and keep up the great work! :)
Thank you Kathy, Linda & Laura!
Your work in this home is amazing. The rugs are outstanding. I placed two of the same dining tables once together in a new construction home with the smae chairs. :)
Thanks Cathy Lee. I've used the 2 dining table trick a few other times and it worked out well.
Michelle,
I always enjoy seeing your beautiful work. I also love the way that the round rug in the entry hall echoes the staircase. Thanks for sharing!
Marianne
Michelle, what a massively huge home!!! I think it would overwhelm a lot of home stagers, never mind home buyers. Great idea to define the huge spaces with area rugs. I like the large scale of the furniture you used as well. You truly inspire us all.
Thank you, Marianne.
Sally: This was a big 'un. I've staged houses with more square footage, but not with such large rooms. The rugs break large rooms up into workable human scale rooms. Thank you.
Wow, and I thought houses were getting smaller...great job, Michelle! Julie
Julia: I think the trend is generally that houses are getting smaller, but this home was built to appeal to a certain ethnic and cultural market, which usually includes several generations living under one roof.
It is now a stunning home, Michelle. I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the homes where the buyer says, "I want to buy it with everything in it."
What a luxurious home. They hired the right stager to showcase this high end listing. Your rugs, furniture selections, and accessories/art look fantastic as well as stand up to the grandness of the home. Not an easy task. Well done Michelle!
